SSC 2019 - Voting for Formats

      This PollUnit is already closed.

Vote for New Conference Formats by 26 November 2018!

Before we start our Call for Special Tracks, we would like you to make suggestions on new conference formats that could be implemented in next year´s conference. We will then forward your suggestions to the Special Interest Group organizers, who can design a preferred format in their track concepts.
We have prepared this survey for the voting, which will be accessible by 26 November 2018. You are able to vote for the formats we have already proposed in the list and/or add another innovative conference format you would like to see at SSC 2019. If you opt for the latter, please provide a short description of the format procedure and how it could contribute to the conference in comparison to the ordinary track format with paper presentations and subsequent questions (see below for examples).

Here is an overview of the formats we envision to be promising for SSC 2019 (in no particular order):

Science Café / World Café: The plenum is divided into smaller groups of people sitting together. There is a host at every table who has prepared a question. At every table, the group members can note their thoughts regarding the question on a blank poster. This poster stays at the table whereas the groups switch tables round by round and try to create further answers to the question building up on the thoughts already noted (the table host provides a brief summary of the previous jottings). After the last round, the posters are hung up in the front and a panel discussion takes place.

Fishbowl: After each paper presentation, the chair selects a small group of participants (4-5) to discuss the paper with the speaker at a table situated in the middle of the room, while the other members of the audience follow the discussion. That way, the typical question-answer-sequence can be avoided.

Speed Geeking: The chair divides the audience into small groups. The presenters are stationed at separate tables and provide an overview of their paper. Depending on the interests of the group, the table starts a “deep dive” into certain aspects. After each round, the group switches to the next table. That way, every participant is able to interact with the presenter and to gain new and relevant information for her/his research.
