2022 TAS Photo Contest

Thank you for helping to select this year's "People's Choice Award" in the Tampa Audubon Society Photography Contest.

Instructions:

Before judging:

• Read the Contest rules at https://www.tampaaudubon.org/photo-contest.
• View each photo at full-screen and read the photographer's description (click on the description symbol in the lower right corner of the photograph). Closely examine each photograph.

Scoring:

For each photograph, assign a score in each of the following three criteria: a) technical quality, b) originality, and c) artistic merit. Technical quality will account for 33% of the total score, originality 33%, and artistic merit 34%. Be sure to score all photos.

To avoid voting bias, the photographer’s name has been kept confidential and the website automatically randomizes the order the photos are shown. 

Judging opens at 1/1/23 and must be completed by 1/5/23 at 12:00pm (noon). Winners will be announced during the regular TAS monthly meeting.

• Technical Quality. Is the photograph in focus? If not, does it appear to be an intentional effect to enhance the image in some “artistic” way? Did the photographer pay thoughtful attention to proper lighting of the subject matter? Do any extremes of darkness or brightness lend to or detract from the image content?
• Originality. Do all the elements come together with the photographer showing some creative thought or original idea in the making of this image? How is this photograph unique? Are the objects in the photo arranged in a meaningful, pleasing manner or are they “haphazard”? Did the photographer use the best angle or otherwise interesting perspective?
• Artistic Merit. Was the subject matter selected pictured in a unique way or was something common shown from a non-traditional point-of-view? Does the photograph give visual impact or illicit a particular mood or feeling? Is there an effectiveness of visual communication between photographer and viewer? Is it eye-catching?
