KBC Photo Contest: “Life in Motion”

As part of KBC DAYS 2026, we are delighted to announce a photo contest inspired by this year's conference theme: “Dynamic Worlds: Responses and Transformations from Molecules to Landscapes”.

Motion is all around us, yet photography is often associated with freezing a fleeting moment in time. For this contest, we invite you to do the opposite: capture movement, change, flow, transformation, or transition, whether in nature, science, people, or everyday life. Show us what dynamics look like through your lens.

This contest is dedicated to photography rather than AI-generated imagery. We encourage you to explore creative photographic techniques that reveal motion and transformation. Whether photographed with a smartphone or a traditional camera, images can use motion blur, long exposures, panning, intentional camera movement, burst photography, reflections, time-lapse sequences, or other creative approaches to capture the dynamic world around us.

Please include a creative title and a short description of the photograph, including the story behind it and any techniques used. Sharing your approach may inspire others to experiment and develop their photography skills.

Eligible participants: KBC DAYS 2026 attendees and members or collaborators of the KBC community

Submission deadline: Sunday, 8 November 2026

Public voting: 9 November (08:00) to 10 November (23:59)

Jury evaluation: 11 November

Winner announcement: During the KBC DAYS 2026 closing remarks on 11 November (approx. 15:30)

Contest Guidelines

Submission:

• Photos (up to 3) must be your own original work.
• Light editing is permitted; extensive digital manipulation and AI-generated or AI-altered images are not allowed.
• Files may be uploaded in common image formats (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc.), up to 50 MB per image. Please note that .HEIC files are not supported.

Public Vote:

• Open from 9 November (08:00) until 10 November (23:59).
• Each voter receives 5 stars to distribute
• Max 2 stars per image may be awarded
• No voting for own entries (will be marked as "blocked")

Note! Voting is open to everyone. To keep the competition fair, please support images based on creativity, originality, and artistic merit, and avoid coordinated voting campaigns.

Jury Evaluation:

A jury of KBC and UMU staff, including professional communicators and media producers, will evaluate the highest-ranked entries from the public vote round.

The winning image will be selected based on:

• Interpretation of the theme "Life in Motion"
• Creativity and originality
• Technical and artistic execution
• Storytelling and accompanying description
