KBC Photo Contest: “Bridging Scales”

Get ready to unleash your creativity! As part of KBC DAYS 2025, we’re thrilled to announce a photo contest inspired by this year’s captivating theme: “Bridging scales: from quantum to cosmos.”

Nature is full of beauty—sometimes hidden in the tiniest particles, sometimes written across the stars. We invite you to explore this vast spectrum through your lens and submit images that reflect the interconnectedness of scales, whether captured in the lab, in nature, or through artistic interpretation.

Your image could:

• Depict a journey from the smallest building blocks of nature to larger structures
• Pair micro and macro perspectives in a collage-style composition
• Showcase phenomena that begin at the microscopic level but ripple outward with large-scale impact
• Reveal how tools like microscopes, telescopes, or simulations help us navigate scales
• Or anything else your imagination leads you to—we’re here to inspire, not limit!

Let your image tell a story of symmetry, complexity, and wonder across scales and dimensions, but don’t forget to give it a creative title and a short description to help others see the idea and the story behind your shot.

🗓️ Contest Details

• 📸 Submission deadline: Sunday, 9 November 2025
• 🗳 Voting period: 11 November 08:00 – 12 November 13:30
• 🏆Winner Announcement: During concluding remarks, Wednesday, 12 November at ~15:30
• Open to: All attendees of the KBC DAYS 2025 and anyone connected to the KBC environment

A few simple rules:

-         The photo must be your own original work.

-         Light edits are fine, but heavy editing or AI manipulation is not allowed.

-         At most three photos per person, please!

-         Any common image format, max 50 MB per file (note that the Iphone .HEIC format won't work).

Voting:

During the KBC DAYS 2025 conference, you can vote for your favourite images. You will have 5 stars to distribute between several photos, max 5 stars per image.

Note that you can not vote for the images that you submitted; they will be marked as "blocked" for you!

Please, vote only once and fairly!

The voting will be closed on 12 November (at 13:30), and the winner of the KBC Photo Contest “Bridging Scales” will be announced during the closing remarks (12 November at ~15:30).
