Passkeys in PollUnit: Passwordless Login and Secure Two-Factor Authentication

We're excited to introduce Passkeys to PollUnit.

Passkeys make signing in faster, easier, and significantly more secure than traditional passwords. Whether you want to replace your password completely or simply strengthen your account security, PollUnit now gives you both options.

What Are Passkeys?

Passkeys are a modern authentication method based on the WebAuthn standard. Instead of remembering a password, you authenticate using your device – typically with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, Android biometrics, or your device PIN.

Behind the scenes, a cryptographic key pair is created. The public key is stored by PollUnit, while the private key remains securely protected in your Passkey provider. During sign-in, the private key is never sent to PollUnit, making Passkeys highly resistant to phishing attacks and password theft.

Why Use Passkeys?

Passkeys offer several advantages over traditional passwords:

• Faster sign-in with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or your device PIN
• Protection against phishing attacks
• No passwords to remember or reuse
• No shared secrets stored on servers

• Support across modern browsers and operating systems

Two Ways to Use Passkeys in PollUnit

Unlike many services, PollUnit lets you decide how you want to use Passkeys.

Passwordless Login

You can sign in using only your Passkey. No password is required.

This provides the fastest and most convenient login experience while improving security at the same time.

Passkeys as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

If you prefer to continue using your password, you can use a Passkey as your second authentication factor.

This combines the familiarity of password-based authentication with the strong phishing protection offered by Passkeys.

Whether you're ready to go completely passwordless or want to introduce Passkeys gradually, PollUnit supports both approaches.

Works with SSO and Social Login

Passkey-based two-factor authentication isn't limited to PollUnit passwords.

If your organization uses its own Single Sign-On (SSO) solution, you can still protect your PollUnit account with a Passkey as a second authentication factor. The same applies when signing in with Google, Facebook, or GitHub.

This gives you an additional layer of phishing-resistant security regardless of how you authenticate with PollUnit.

Even if your identity provider doesn't support Passkeys yet, you can still benefit from Passkey-based protection inside PollUnit. This allows organizations to improve account security immediately without changing their existing authentication infrastructure.
