March 2023 - Open Competition
SUBMITTING PHOTOS
- When uploading a file, it helps us if you saved your file using your "full name-title" as the filename.
- On the Poll Unit submission page, that filename will automatically show in the Title field. Remove your full name from the filename and put it in the photographer field.
- This month, we have a print and a digital competition. You may enter a maximum of two entries. You may distribute them among print and digital as you wish; 2 in print, 2 in digital or 1 in each.
- Image may be a maximum of 2000 pixels on the longest side.
- Each file may be a maximum of 3 MB, only. Larger files have been restricted in this system,
SCORING
DO NOT SCORE YOUR OWN or YOUR SPOUSE'S IMAGES.
YOU MUST SCORE ALL OTHER IMAGES. SCORING OF ONLY A FEW IMAGES WILL BE DISREGARDED.
- When scoring, view these on a big screen - desktop monitor or cast to a TV monitor. Smart phones will not give a realistic view of image quality.
- Consider each image on its own merits not against one another.
- When evaluating photos, please consider the following criteria: Impact, Creativity, Style, Composition, Center of interest, Lighting, Subject matter, Color balance, Technical excellence, Technique, Storytelling, and Emotion.
- When assigning points for most photos to a maximum of 15 points, use the following guidelines when scoring:
- Technical - up to 5 points
- Composition - up to 5 points
- Impact/Consistency with Theme - up to 5 points
Caveat: For certain photos that are reality-based, such as journalistic photos taken in real-time, please consider giving more weight to "Impact/Consistency with Theme" and less weight to composition and technical as these photos often have composition and editing challenges (e.g. can't remove distractions, no control over lighting, etc)
