Early morning light over the winding Mara River in Kenya from our hot air balloon made this view from above breathtaking. Spotting another balloon below and ahead of us gives nice perspective with the escarpment running from Kenya to Tanzania in the background.

Gergeti Trinity Church high in the mountains of Georgia

This beautiful 14th century church and adjacent bell tower with Mount Kazbegi in the background is so beloved by Georgians that it is considered a symbol of Georgia in the South Caucasus. Located on the right bank of the River Chkheri and atop of a 2,170 meter high mountain, this iconic setting offers a beautiful view from above.

                                  Oh, what a ride!

Namibia is a showcase of the sublime beauty of the desert in all its forms. After being dumbstruck by the magnificence of the gigantic dunes in Sossusvlei, I couldn’t imagine anything that would impress me as much — until I saw the vast desert mountains from a hot air balloon. How lucky I was that a twin balloon shadowed our entire journey, offering a delightfully soft, colorful contrast to the craggy, burnt umber mountain peaks.

The Museum of Old and New Art (aka MONA), has some of the most unusual offerings you’re likely to see anywhere on the planet. A portion of one such exhibit can be seen here. Why do I see the sky below this person’s feet? Am I looking up or down? If you don’t know the answer, here it is: I’m right-side up, looking down on a person who is standing on a platform cantilevered over a pool of black “tar” that perfectly reflects the roof and sky above both of us. Intriguing!

The U Bein Bridge near Mandalay, Myanmar is a must see site. It is the oldest teak wood bridge in the world and is approximately 1.2 kilometers long. I went early one morning to this bridge over the Taung Tha Man Lake and crossed the length of the bridge twice, meeting all walks of life on a typical day on the bridge. This woman riding to work with her daily products to sell captures the essence of daily life for many that live in the area. For all that travel along the bridge there are always wonderful views from above.

I was struck by the setting, with sand from the shallower waters being carried out to deeper areas by the current. I was able to identify this as part of the string of Cays associated with Isla de La Juventud (Isle of Youth), Cuba.

With time to kill before heading to the port, I took photos around my hotel, including this picture from a top floor balcony. I was intrigued by the shapes and colors, including the roof top swimming pool and glimpse of beach. This was the "high" point of my trip!

I usually added on the weekend to explore areas outside Orlando, and one of my explorations was this lighthouse, which is the tallest one in Florida and still active. Because it was open for climbing, I headed to the top. I took pictures of the spiral staircase both at the bottom looking up, and from the top looking down. I preferred the view from the top!

These geologic features attract millions of viewers every year. This setting is the largest collection of hoodoos in the world. The much photographed treasures were created by weathering and erosion. Ice and rain have worked together to sculpt these intriguing structures. The hoodoos can be viewed from above as in this photo, or one can descend via trails that lead to views with a different perspective.

I snapped this shot of another group of skiers across the valley reaching the mountain's slightly lower South Peak in the distance.

The Antarctica landscape thrilled us every day, and this view, with vibrant blue crevasses, was no exception. I cannot imagine what the collapse of these towering frozen masses would have been like if we had been able to stay long enough for the inevitable show.
