Overcast day at Lagoa Azul, Ilha de San Miguel, Azores
It was an overcast day looking at Lagoa Azul, San Miguel Island, Azores. In spite of the weather, the lake is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by lush vegetation and situated inside the caldera of an old volcano - the Caldiera das Sete Cidades.

Leg Rower Pagoda Festival on Inle Lake, Myanmar.
The Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival on Inle Lake is a wonderful spectacle each year. During the celebration, Buddha images are paraded around the lake by barges pulled by leg rowers. The boats are highly decorated and observers line up in boats and on the lakeshore to view this one of a kind colorful event!

Jade Spring Park (Hei Long Tan)
Dating to 1737, sits the exquisite Jade Spring Park, a short walk from Old Town Lijiang, China, was like something out of a dream. Its delicate arched bridge and three-roofed pavilion on the lake in the foreground were set against the Jade Dragon Sow Mountain on a perfect Spring day.

A relaxing, peaceful afternoon on the beach at Lake Canaima
Canaima Lake, a part of Venezuela's Canaima National Park, provides a beautiful panorama with palm trees growing in the lake and waterfalls in the background. A portion of the water for Canaima Lake comes from Angel Falls via the Carrao River.

Leg rowing fisher
Fishermen in the Lake Inle area of Myanmar practice a distinctive rowing style. They standing at the edge of their boat on one leg and wrap the other leg around the oar. The story is that rowing in this manner provides a view beyond the plants that float on the lake. I was greatly impressed at their ability to stand on one foot, row with the other, fish at the same time and not fall into the lake, as I suspect I would if I tried it.

Inle Lake Fisherman
Of the many fishermen on Inle Lake in Myanmar, this one caught my eye as he easily balanced on one foot right on the prow of his narrow wooden boat while simultaneously steering with his other foot and guiding his delicate net with his hands. His long skirt and elegant straw hat added to the indelible image.

great egrets preparing nests at avery island rookery
Avery Island, where Tabasco Sauce is made, is a bird refuge for over 180 different bird species. Located along the shore of one of the small lakes on the island, which is surrounded by marshes, is a rookery for a number of bird species. The great egrets are there during the spring and use the rookery to build their nests and hatch their fledglings, as seen in the picture.

Jewel of the Canadian Rockies
Moraine Lake is one of the Jewels of the Canadian Rockies and featured on the Canadian $20 note for many years. But due to its popularity we had to arrive at the parking pre-dawn to get a spot. Well worth it thought, a spectacular sight and many lovely walks nearby

Early morning ride to work over Myanmar's U Bein teak wood bridge
I arrived early one morning at the U Bein Bridge to witness lakeshore travel at the famous bridge over the Taungthamon Lake near Amarapura, Myanmar. The iconic bridge was built about 1850, and is the oldest and longest teak bridge.

Suzie at Green Beach
The first picture Suzie at Green Beach was taken in eastern Australia. We were on a driving tour of east Australia when we set out to explore some of the beaches. This one was a very beautiful beach. My wife was walking along the beach and I took a candid shot of her strolling the beach.

Rocks on Lake Louise
Lake Louise is justified in its reputation as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world — any time of day. While strolling around its perimeter early one morning, I happened to see a spot where smooth, round rocks connected the land to the water. I loved the contrast between the rocks and the huge, jutting mountains, and seeing the white clouds and whiter snow-capped peaks reflected in the still water.

Colorful lakeshore view of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, Canada
Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in the Banff National Park in Canada. I spent several hours here in July, 2016 admiring the natural beauty of this Canadian treasure on a trip to experience the nearby famous Calgary Stampede.

Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan
Since it's unlikely I'll ever again get to Lake Issyk-Kul, I can safely say that the place will always remind me of warm floors. After hours in a bus wondering if it would be worth the long ride on bad roads, this is my first sighting of the second largest mountain lake in the world. Worth it, no? The Tian Shen Mountains in the background, a few specimens of the prevalent poplar trees, and even a local man on an opportune stroll wearing a kalpak, the traditional Kyrgyz men's hat, this first scene was typical of Issyk-Kul's charm. Yet it's the heated floors at the Karven Resort, right on the lakeshore, that linger in my memory. The brisk mountain air means a need for heat. Floors radiate warmth, cozy for the feet, great for drying sink laundry and easing bus-sore muscles.
