Least Resistance Emoji Voting not Counting as Expected

I did a 3 emoji vote: green smiley yes, grey neutral if needed, red frown no. Pretty intuitive.
I wanted to score based on least resistance.
When I tested voting myself, it counted the grey as a 0, the green as a -1 and the red as a +1 so reds were chosen as best option. Completely backwards.

that's right! This combination is not very intuitive.
