Mandatory responses

I need to make responses mandatory to some questions but am struggling to do so.

One is a multiple choice question with 7 choices, I need at least one to be selected.
The other is a matrix agreement question with multiple statements.

I have a business account - is it possible to make sure respondents answer these two questions?

Currently, neither multiple choice nor matrix agreement questions have a built-in mandatory feature. We’ll add this to our internal to-do list, though.

Could you clarify how you’d expect this to work for the matrix scale? In most cases, the starting point of the scale already counts as a valid answer, so we’d like to better understand what “mandatory” should mean there in your use case.

Ok good to know, thanks for the swift reply.

For the matrix scale, I can see that would be tricky one implement clearly and easily. To me, if someone had spent a period of time on the page, say 4 seconds per statement it would show they have considered them and not just rushed through. Or, if there were an option to not have the selections pre-selected as neutral to force a choice.

I just want to let you know that your requested features (mandatory multiple choice and a non-pre-selected matrix) are currently in development. I will post any updates here.

Regarding the concern of users rushing through surveys: it’s difficult to technically enforce careful reading or honest responses. Even with a minimum time per step, participants could simply wait without engaging.

One possible approach would be to track the time spent on each step and flag participants who complete them unusually fast. This way, you could identify and filter out unrealistic responses without forcing everyone to wait. Would this be helpful for you?

Feature Release: Mandatory Multiple Choice Questions and Matrix Steps

We’ve just released an update that includes both of your requested features:

  1. Mandatory option for multiple choice questions
You can now enable a Mandatory checkbox for multiple choice questions. As you suggested, a multiple choice question is considered answered when at least one option has been selected.
  2. Mandatory participation in Matrix steps
Matrix steps now include the option »Participants must vote«, similar to the existing setting for Rating steps. When enabled, all default selections in a matrix are hidden, and participants must manually choose an option for each statement.

Thank you so much, outstanding support :)

Re the idea of flagging quick responses, nice idea although I don't think we need that, the updates you have made are perfect.

Thanks again
