Names of voters and anonymized names
Until now, there was only one setting that controlled two things at once: whether voters have to provide a name, and whether voters' names are anonymized – namely »Anonymize voters«.
Many users who simply wanted to turn off the name requirement understandably often couldn't find this setting. That's why we've split the two functions into two separate settings:
- Voters must provide a name
- Anonymize voters
The »Anonymize voters« setting anonymizes all automatically collected personal data of voters. This includes, for example, names and email addresses. This information is also hidden in exports.
In contrast, the »Voters must provide a name« setting does not affect the visibility or anonymization of data. If the name requirement is disabled, voters can simply participate without providing a name. Existing names, email addresses, and other personal data remain visible.
Data collected through custom fields is not anonymized. Since the content of these fields is defined individually by the poll creator, it always remains visible and is not automatically anonymized.
We hope this makes the settings clearer for most users!
