Dear developers team,

We are a French photo club and we organise several photo contest all along the year.
Some are dedicated to our members, some to anyone.
For the public one we are printing the winning photos to put into the streets.

We are very dissapointed because PollUnit can't check that the submitted files :

  • are in the correct file format (JPG)
  • are in 300 DPI
  • are in the correct size (we are often using 60x40 cm format)

We think that this could easily and quickly be implemented and could be useful for a lot a users.
We really hope to have those functionalities soon. Without we will have to found another solution than PollUnit despite the fact that we really like the product.

We are open to the discussion if you need more information.

Thanks a lot.
Best regards.

There's no need to be »very disappointed« because you can set a minimum size for your images in pixels. Convert the dimensions of 60 x 40 cm (approximately 23.62 x 15.75 inches) at 300 DPI (dots per inch) to real pixel values, which correspond to approximately 7087 x 4724 pixels. You can input these pixel dimensions in step 2 when creating a photo contest.

Additionally, you can enforce this minimum resolution either by the »smallest side« (commonly used by most photo clubs we've spoken to) or by »width and height«.

Please understand that we cannot provide multiple interfaces for all the different ways of describing digital image sizes, all of which ultimately translate into pixels.

Before we start developing features, we always need to understand why it's needed. So, why do you want to limit image submissions to JPG? JPG doesn't guarantee consistent quality or printability due to varying compression levels, color spaces, subsampling techniques, and color profiles, among other factors. By the way, we use modern image formats for photo delivery, which provide better compression, higher image quality compared to JPG, and smaller file sizes, resulting in faster loading times. Therefore, when you vote on the images, you won't be viewing a JPG.

I'd also like to highlight our »Approval Dashboard« feature, which allows you to review submissions and request changes from the submitter. Here you could check the submission for printability. The »Approval Dashboard« can be activated in the step »Advanced«.
