Hello, making a test for the video contest, we have noticed that a video uploaded by participants is noted as 516MB, while on my phone is only 216MB. Same for my colleague, it was 20MB, noted at 67 MB on the platform. How can we explain this huge difference, knowing that it might limit the number of uploads possible? Thank you
When participants upload a video, we store the original source file as well as processed versions (derivatives) in a standardized format for reliable playback. The file size shown on PollUnit reflects the combined storage of the original upload and these processed versions, not just the original file from the device.
This processing is important to ensure a reliable and fair experience for all participants and voters: people access PollUnit from a wide range of devices, browsers, and internet connections. A video that plays perfectly on one modern smartphone with a fast connection might not work smoothly on an older device, a different browser, or a slower network. By converting videos into a standardized, widely supported format, we make sure that all entries can be played without issues, buffering is reduced, and no participant is disadvantaged simply because of the original format or encoding of their upload.
