Automate your voting and submission periods

Automate your voting and submission periods

Controlling you votings and running photo contests is getting more easy.

Our deadline function has been updated! Now it is also possible not only to set an expiration date for the voting, but to automate the whole submission and voting process. Determine when your participants can submit photos or ideas, when the submission phase ends, when voting starts and ends.

Participants who create an account are informed about status changes and reminded to participate in the different phases.

So sit back, enjoy a coffee and watch your photo contest or voting develop fully automated in its phases.

Range voting: Rate options or images with numbers

Score voting (Range voting, Rated Voting) is a particularly general and expressive method of voting. It is a voting procedure in which options and pictures are rated with points from a given interval. The voters can rate each option independently of the others.

A particularly widespread and easy-to-understand voting method is the star rating. Large marketplaces like Amazon and Co. rely on the form in which voters have the opportunity to rate products with stars. Especially popular are the 5-star ratings. If you decide on a star rating at PollUnit, you can determine how many stars, but not more than 10, your participants may vote from.

If a scale from 1 to 10 is not enough, there is now also the possibility to create scales from 0 to 100 with the new range voting. As creator you can determine the start and end of the scale. For example, you can allow voters to rate options and photos between 0 and 20 or between 7 and 50.

The voting is done with the help of a slider. Your users can move a small handle to the left and right on the scale you have created and choose a number.

With our new feature »Limit submissions« we are especially targeting our photo competition creators. Nevertheless, the function is also applicable for all other PollUnit types. A short example:

With PollUnit, you can easily run and customize your own photo contests.
You can show a button that allows users to upload their photos into your gallery. If you define a maximum number of submissions, users can only submit as many images as you have specified. For example, if you want to limit participants to submit only one picture.

So it's up to you: Choose your rules and run a photo contest!

¡QUÉ GUAY!

PollUnit now also speaks Spanish. Not perfect yet, but our Spanish beta version already helps to run photo contests, polls and tables in Spain, South America and everywhere where Spanish is spoken.

Why beta? More languages were actually planned for next year and don't really fit into our roadmap for this year. But at the same time our Spanish and South American friends are especially affected by the Corona crisis and need more than ever the possibility to vote online. So we dare an experiment and use an AI to translate our texts and revise them with our Spanish community. That means you can help us to improve and suggest changes to our texts. Just write an e-mail to support@pollunit.com or leave a message in our Support Forum.

We are curious how this experiment works, what you think about it and hope to provide you with more languages in the near future.

The Spanish version of PollUnit can be found at pollunit.com/es.

Evaluate and view camera settings

Evaluate and view camera settings

When a digital camera takes a photo, it usually stores all kinds of information about the circumstances of the shot in the photo. This includes technical information such as ISO, shutter speed and aperture. This information determines how the camera has exposed the picture. For many photographers and photo clubs these metadata are therefore of great importance.

With the help of the EXIF data (Exchangeable Image File Format), you can verify whether the settings for the motif have been chosen sensibly. Many members of photo clubs use this information as a technical basis for discussion.

If you run a PollUnit photo contest, you can publish these details for your participants. As administrator you can also access the extended EXIF data of the photos without having to download the photos. The extended metadata includes time and place, correction filters and processing presets. The photographers can adjust, add or remove the EXIF data of their photos with image programs.

Say »Thank you« when participants submit photos

In October 2019 we have integrated the possibility to create own thank you pages for voters. A short time later we have made it possible to run your own photo contest with PollUnit. This shifted the focus from the voters to the photographers.

Therefore it is now also possible to create thank you pages that are displayed after submitting a photo.

You can also format all thank you pages - i.e. you can mark texts bold, italic or underlined. You can also integrate links in the body text next to a big »Call To Action« button. So you can offer your newsletter and use the PollUnit thank you page for customer retention.

P.S. The possibility of formatting was also added to your own data terms and conditions.

Review, approve and vote on music and other audio data

Review, approve and vote on music and other audio data

We have added an audio player to our polls on files and images. With our online voting tool you can now upload, listen to and rate music, sounds or other audio data.

Audio reviews and approvals on audio files within the team become a piece of cake.

The usual PollUnit functions are at your disposal. Allow your participants to upload their own mp3 files, choose from different rating and voting methods, hide participants and collect further information such as subtitles or contact details.

Do you like our new function or are you missing something? We are looking forward to your feedback; e.g. in our forum.

Set minimum resolution and collect high quality photos

If you run a photo contest to collect user-generated content and you want to use it for e.g. print media, you may have to request a minimum quality.

Nothing would be more annoying than not to be able to use the best photos because of low quality.

With our new feature you make sure that the submitted images meet your quality standards. You can require a minimum megapixel value or directly specify the required pixel width and height. If the resolution is lower than the minimum, the entry will not be accepted and the user will be asked to submit an image or photo of higher quality.

Gather feedback and reviews in our new lightbox!

Gather feedback and reviews in our new lightbox!

Our photo contests and picture polls get a new lightbox. The redesign includes some technical improvements as well as a lot of your feature requests, some of them especially for the needs of photo clubs.

The most important change in the photo gallery are photo comments. In addition to the direct comments in your PollUnits, it is now possible to give individual feedback to each photographer. Also the evaluation and the export has been extended by photo comments.

Use our lightbox as digital picture frame by activating automatic playback. A click on the play symbol starts or stops the auto play mode.

The photos can also be played, viewed and evaluated in full screen. Click on the full screen icon or press the F key to activate the full screen mode.

In addition to the hotkey F for full screen, other functions can also be triggered by using your keyboard shortcuts. These include the arrow keys to navigate back and forth between photos - additionally press Shift to move the gallery to the beginning or end. The space bar starts and stops auto playback, and C opens and closes the comments.

Participants with mobile phones can now use swipe gestures to navigate between photos.

Especially for photo contests with hundreds of photos, we have integrated a slider that allows lightning-fast navigation through the entire contest.

As always, we are looking forward to your feedback! Let us know what you like and what we can do better.

Simplification of the computation of star ratings

We have simplified the calculation of our star ratings. The old PollUnits are not affected by this change. For all new votings and photo contests, the option or picture with the highest average rating wins!

What will change in concrete terms? Previously the average was formed considering all voters. If a participant did not vote for an option at all, this was equivalent to a vote with 0 stars. If an option has only ratings with 5 stars but significantly more voters, the rating was significantly lower than 5 stars. This is now changing!

With the new star ratings, the average is now only formed by the votes for this option. In extreme cases, this means that an option with a 5 star rating will be rated better than one with thousands and a lower rating. If one option has the same average as another, the one with more votes wins.

With this we align the star rating with the well-known rating systems of various online shops and rating portals.

You do not like this change? Please give us feedback!

PollUnit offers you beside star ratings also other types of voting. This includes simple upvoting, likening, loving, systemic consensus and dot voting. With votes of this kind, the sum of the positive votes counts, not the average.
